Facilities / Design

Whether we are supplying a temporary test rig, pre-production unit or final production machine, all Petrie supplied equipment is designed in house at our Ackhurst Road site using a team of dedicated Mechanical and Electrical Engineers from our sister company, NIS Limited.

We have many years of experience in the design and supply of special purpose equipment, and mechanical and remote handling, as well as electrical and pneumatic systems. The design service embraces conceptual design, development of project specifications, design proposals, detail design for manufacture, prototype development and engineering consultancy.

Our design groups are industry specific and retain responsibility for particular projects. This approach has allowed us to build an extensive resource of practical experience, making our services valuable to customers.

We have an even ratio of mechanical and electrical engineers shared between two offices. We also have the ability to hire extra engineers should a larger project require this. Our experienced design engineers operate enhanced CAD facilities including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor, SolidWorks, and pro Engineer. We also have Ansys, MathCAD and Amtech ProDesign software calculation packages. Our control and instrumentation engineers are fully proficient on a variety of PLC systems, including Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Omron, and Schneider.

A recent addition is the arrival of both PIPENET drafting package and Bentley/Hevacomp calculation software allowing the design of HVAC systems to be done in house along side the existing project.

Since opening NIS has developed and designed a large variety of projects, and its design capability includes:

  • Design Studies

  • Detailed mechanical design

  • Electrical hardware design

  • Control system software design

  • Documentation and manuals

During each phase of the design process, where possible, manufacturing and value engineering exercises are carried out to ensure cost effective manufacturing techniques are inherent within the design.
